Decided to watch a rock concert of the musical band «Dave Gahan & Soulsavers» in support of the album «Angels & Ghosts» (released October 23, 2015). Free concert in color and live on the Internet, on the popular online video sharing site «YouTube».The concert takes place in Berlin at the small hall «Tempodrom», which is made in such a fantastic style. The official blog of the concert says, that the exclusive layvstrim in Internet is presented by program «Electronic Beats». This is an international music program of the company «Deutsche Telekom», which specializes in cross-media information, including live events throughout Europe.

This concert in Berlin is a part of the tour. Singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Dave Gahan says, that it is the world for a week, and the reason the tour is so short rests on practicality. So David came with the musical band «Soulsavers» to the idea to play so little, but in interesting places and also Dave Gahan says, that they need to rehearse, as if they went on the tour for a year.

That definitely influences me and I hold onto that and I listen to it more, much more than I used to. I find I get really informed by it and it goes into the songs. Ghosts, for me, are memories. They’re past and present as well, and I feel like memories definitely come into the songs—moments, places, times I’ve spent.

I was hooked. Depeche thoroughly in search of live sound since the album «Songs of Faith and Devotion». Then, as a result, the song «Walking in my Shoes» in mix «Rehearsals», published in a live performance 20 years later. And I’ve thought, that it makes sense to understand. View live and write about it, and in general about David Gahan’s project with the band «SoulSavers», to understand what led them to such cooperation.

Musical rock band «SoulSavers» — this is no name group. Style — it’s not about them. During the concert they don’t brand even their drums. With different musicians they take a secondary form, play in the background and play along. And how cooperation with «SoulSavers» will impact on Depeche mode, it’s hard to imagine, but I want to note the theme about the commercial side of the project «Dave Gahan & Soulsavers». The network does not say anything about it, compared to the band «Depeche Mode», which consistently paint their finances publicly: 101, newspaper articles, the layout of the budget of the international tour «Delta Tour» in the encyclopedia «Wikipedia» for hundreds of millions of dollars.

Rich Machin and Ian Glover are the musical band «SoulSavers» and already known for their collaborations with such iconic musicians, as Mark Lanegan & Mike Patton. One — is an authoritative grunger, who has worked with the bands «Nirvana», «Queens of the Stone Age» and experimental rock band «UNLCE», and the second is the leader of the cult band «Faith no More».

In the sound recording are noise effects and in comparison with Depeche, Gahan left from electronic sounds in to retro and vintage. Sometimes music is listening as light and bright, and sometimes, it’s a little dark. But in general, the sound on the album turned out beautiful, and there is fantastic vocals. Gospel choir, organ and guitar, which play endless bends, trills, ride on the ears, buzz, squeal, moan, take not those notes and slide them to the right, and sometimes do not reach — create dissonance and shake. In the lyrics of the album is lied cinema concept, that has turned due to artistic images, that longer peculiar to subjects of fictional films or contrasting fragments from movies, than real life.

For a small scene with high ceilings Dave Gahan has developed new movements, that catch the eye. These are small steps, almost bent, in contrast to the big stage, where he (Gahan) makes forward his legs in the three-meters (he has beautiful long legs). At this stage he found a space (), and often bent at the knees.

Guitars were connected with jacks and the microphone should be on the vayarles system to fans! not finaly riot.

So the album «Angels & Ghosts» was released October 23, 2015. And this is the second album, which came out from David Gahan in collaboration with the musical rock band «SoulSavers». It was released on CD, vinyl, MP3 format, in Europe, US, England, Russia, Argentina at the world’s oldest label «Columbia Records», which exists since 1887. The album is decorated with 8 pages booklet.

Recording took place at different studios, the list of participants in the project looks impressive. And guest musicians, companies and people say, that the group was well sorted out with the sound and concept to complement the highlight of a particular composition. The album was recorded at studios around the world. Some works Dave Gahan made with the help of his family. For example, the cover for the album drew David Gahan’s daughter Stella Rose, Phil Gahan commented this for newspapers, and video for the song «Shine» took his son James Rogers-Gahan.

Which concert microphone belongs to David Gahan is not clear, but it is clear, that it has vayrless system «ACE», and that David Gahan says in interview, that he is not tied to any concert microphone specifically, but likes to use different microphones and preamps in order to experiment with his vocal.

Interestingly, the debut album «The Light the Dead Sea» was released on May 21, 2012, as the creative of the band «SoulSavers». The second album «Angels & Ghosts» already came out as «Dave Gahan & SoulSavers». And I think that was done for the purpose of the public relations, to bring to the project a greater number of the fans of David Gahan and the band «Depeche Mode», because it’s not simple to imagine, that Dave Gahan needs such a PR (because SoulSavers played opening act for Depeche Mode). But perhaps David Gahan is in repositioning, that will be seen in the band’s «Depeche Mode» next album.

For example, after the release of the album «The Light the Dead Sea» in the network were published unofficial videos for the songs, where can be seen a lot of beautiful girls images (some clips are in this article, as example). So in the future album and tour Depeche Mode used this visual. In particular, during the song «Enjoy the Silence» during the tour «Delta Machine», there where so many girls in the background of the video, that they no longer fit in the allotted space. At this time you can choose from gospel, jazz, blues, guitar noise, dissonance and a positive attitude, that have been already used many times by Depeche and can get some contrast colors and emphasis in the following works..

This time in Berlin the main concert program consists of 12 compositions, that were written by the union «Dave Gahan & Soulsavers» for the album «Angels & Ghosts», the band «Soulsavers» with the participation of David Gahan for the album «The Light the Dead See», and an additional portion of 2 covers of songs, written by Gahan without SoulSavers for his solo albums «Hourglass» and «Paper Monsters» and will be played two covers on the songs by the cult band «Depeche Mode» from the album «Songs of Faith and Devotion».

And the cries of the audience, and the «Tempodrom» hotly takes the collective «Dave Gahan & Soulsavers», my home theater creates a sense of presence! On the part of the scene is aventurine light, shimmering in the pink ash light. Cameras show the complete hall of the people, but Gahan is not visible. There are musical instruments on the stage and behind them there are hiigh aventurine curtains, which are creating a certain theatrical effect. Begin to play the composition of the band «Algiers» — «In Parallax». And because of the strong and dense sound people just come to life, and I tense muscles of the body, and the musicians is not yet. During the music was calmed down, when cries of the hall were almost drowned out it, and the musicians began to explore their vintage instruments, Dave Gahan came on the stage, he is tall and slim, he corrected headphones indicatively, giving a sign, that also listened to the same song, and I added few decibels to the volume!!

Dave Gahan wore a stylish suit, just like a Gentleman, his shoes were in the color of the jacket, a black shirt with shimmering sequins, accessories in his arms and neck, rings and chain, branded) hairda with a laid-back hair, like from the 90’s (Violator) . It was evident, that he was in good spirit. Hall «Tempodrom» clapped to the beat of the music, before he started to sing. Sound was separated through various channels, and I’m inside.

Dave Gahan sings with his usual charisma and inimitable mimicry, my favorite baritone and music plays with this mood.

During the song «In the Morning» Rich Machin spins guitar tuners on Fender Telecaster and gets detuned sound, Richard Warren solos constantly, Duke Garwood plays fingerpicking on third guitar, synth sounds, as an organ and creates a specific background, bass and drums sound simple, that add weight to guitar lines, creating a tight sound mix. It seems, that there is a pure vocal sound.

The leaves are falling — it is quite natural. Dave Gahan sings, and the light on the stage of the moire in aventurine and reminds autumn season, and when this live is playing. These high bliiiiinds, they give theatricality to event. In this case it seems, that the music was written towards the words and it’s mood is developing together with the meaning of the text. Music emphasizes the mood of fallen leaves and a hero, who normally refers to this.

«I’m lost here now», -here Dave Gahan, eassy, but with drive wheezes, that gives to the overall sound a unique dynamic.

Some David Gahan’s movements remind something theatrical, because they look a little bit factitiously. The way he bents at the knees, and as he walks across the stage on his long legs, as bent, stresses this little stage and chamber way of this performance.

The song «In the morning» consists of four themes and written by the band «SoulSavers» for the album «The Light the Dead See». In it’s time the song has sounded in the concert at the studio «Capitol Records». Online fans have done dozens of clips to it from a variety of performances, photos and their own ideas. And there is an original video, that I found (the truth) with Spanish subtitles.

In the original composition is listening softer, than the concert version, in a live performance it received weighting sound, alternative rock, that mixed with dirty blues.

Dave Gahan is the sex symbol 100%. When the cameras shoot, as he begins to turn backwards, shakes his hips, crouches in the rhythm of the music, sits down on the left side, that’s turns sideways, left, right, that’s hand shakes a sound wave… yes! song just gets triple dose of positive charge at the same time, the musical band «SoulSavers» thrice happy to this cooperation and the international stream of the company «Deutsch Telekom» on video sharing site «YouTube» grows with album sales and adds few megabits per second.

Apart from David Gahan our musicians are dressed in the style of «work song» in the holiday. The black and white colors, shirts with sleeves of different lengths, jackets, tuxedo, hat, jeans, shoes, like shoes.

Saturated guitar sound consists of fingerpickings and reefs, sometimes they squeal and moan effectively, just like from pleasure, reverberation sends waves, as rays of sunlight. For guitar Fender Jazzmaster and Richard Warren there are little such techniques, as slides and bends, they need rock! And they use the machine and the strings about the guitar bridge. Kevin Bales knocks straight bit on drums, Martyn LeNoble plays bass guitar, light breaks and slender passages, electronic keys sound like a vibrating organ and Sean Read plays all octaves.

In the song and at the concert sings gospel choir, it touches the feelings and it seems, that everything is great, and there is as much strength and energy in the composition as needed. I like how the choir sings the words of the chorus «Light» and «Shine», when Gahan sings short words and they pull the them forward. At the same time Richard Warren plays cool leitmotif of the three notes.

The composition sounds similar to the original, with the notable difference, that in the recording instruments routed through the channels to thoroughly.

The song «Shine» consists of three themes and it’s not simply a super hit, but also the second single to be released in order to increase sales of the new album, that speaks of it’s positive concept. With this song the band played in support of the album «Angels & Ghosts» on television shows on TV «BBC», «ABC». There is official music video, which I’ve seen on the official website of the band «Depeche mode».

According to the legend, the optimistic tone of the song talks about the vibrant New York culture. In an interview the author of the song says, that New York is the first place, where he was and felt, as if it belonged to him. The video starred model Rebekah Underhill. The media says, that the style of the composition is a lite version of the album «Songs of Faith and Devotion» (but I don’t agree with it).

In the commercial video Dave Gahan combines style and sound, which he has found in the band «SoulSavers» with developments in the band «Depeche Mode». His hand up move and playing with fingers (known method), as if in the light of the sun’s rays — it looks like Depeche. Then facial expressions, when he lifts the corners of his mouth up and adds them a tube, and then puts forward and shows his fangs. Lamps (as if inspired by the music video for the song «In Your Room»), and among the similar sound with Depche with the cracked notes of a guitar, on his head, in my opinion, one hair has fallen off, saliva flew out of topic, curve makeup, rumpled hairdo, revealed many not characteristic reverberation to Depeche. At the end of the song instruments were like mixed in solos and fingerpickings, in the online stream and beautiful code.

«You Owe Me» consists of three themes, and it is called in the magazines «sparkling highlight». Else the song has had a performance on TV «BBC» in support of the album «Angels & Ghosts». At the concert song sounded similar to the original and in an interview the author of the text, the singer and composer Dave Gahan says about it so, that it’s meaning is positive, but may be, slightly testy.

The next song sounded «Tempted» at the Berlin concert (from the album «Angels & Ghosts»). It is  about the relationship, but it happens, that every instrument plays solo, and all of them sound together.

The light scene is highlighted in lavender color. Dave Gahan took off his jacket, he is in black shimmering tinsel shirt. This is David Gahan’s branded walk, like a satisfied goose. These, like, simple pioneer dance on the spot, but it looks so, that it is not easy to express in words. He knocks the rhythm of with his dances. That is dancing outside the music! Some says, that Gahan’s nickname was «The Cat» in the 90’s, but now, it seems to be true.

In the same time bass by Martyn LeNoble is simple with little, uncomplicated transitions, there are interesting beat and rhythmic pattern of vocals in the song. Song harmony develops gradually, starting with guitar solo by Richard Warren and weighted sound of his amp, which play a theme, reminiscent of classic American western, prairies, stone seashore, fields, farm and starry sky. And the theme is revealed, when the electronic organ and Sean Read start play solo after the first chorus.

Each of the instruments play solo and at the time, when David Gahan is singing too. Solo guitar goes into frank blues and a few lines of the code, gospel choir sings «Hold» with David Gahan for three times. It’s hard to hold from goose bumps.

I like, that Dave Gahan is in top form in his 53 and does not hesitate in his movements. In contrast to the monotonous musicians (psch), he has wiggled every part of the body to the fourth song, waved hands in all directions.

In an interview author of the lines of the song says, that he would like to compare (to give contrast) to many things in the new songs. The beauty of music and the open space of introspection. And I think, that the open space of introspection — the band of musicians «SoulSavers», because it seems that they are very much loaded in some of their thoughts.

In the tour in this concert at the hall «Tempodrom» song «Tempted» sounds, clearly, faster, harder and louder, than the original, because in the recording sounds the relax version, but the concert has to follow the current dynamics.

In search of the style and sound the song was performed live at the wooden walls of the studio «MSR Studios», filmed by four cameras and posted on the Internet, and then spreaded by fans.

Despite the rich sound and arrangement on the seven themes, the composition is performed rather modest on the network, but like the other band’s «SoulSavers» songs, there are texts and chords, and translations on hundreds of websites, and fans sing it on the video and make clips on it. Next song «Tonight» is known for the album «The Light the Dead See». During it’s performance at the Berlin concert, I can’t see (hardly) what is happening on the stage, because the light effect creates nocturnal twilight. The camera shoots Parisian blue color, faint velvety contours of Soulsavers, that is Gahan somewhere in the fog, in the dark can be seen slightly, but almost not visible. According to it’s meaning, it sounds even softer and gently, because voice was done even more tremulous and tender. After the line «My dear» I want to hug. Such David Gahan’s voice I have never heard before, because this type of vocal, it is not typical for the band «Depeche Mode». Where are so shortly and exactly, and synchronously.

On this song fans post recordings from hundreds of phones from different places of the hall «Tempodrom», home video recorded cover songs, shoot videos, write chords and lyrics. At the concert the song sounds, in my opinion, easier and with more energetic, than the original and the same television performances, and for such impressions the audience please with applause even louder and longer, than usual. Add to Favorites!

Now on the stage the light is gone in to crimson color, and camera with band «SoulSavers» leave at dusk. Startes famous song «Presence of god», and it’s a song with a gothic mood. It could be the soundtrack.

In this song Martyn LeNoble performs organ part on the synthesizer. The second synthesizer is with piano sound. Duke Garwood plays vintage guitar Gibson L-50, sometimes he is in blues and twists tuning keys to quieter and then louder, that creating a specific mood of guitar rhythm section. On guitar Fender Jazzmaster by Richard Warren there are sensitive themes of a lone wanderer. It is interesting developing of David Gahan’s vocal (nice). It seems, that he is slightly ahead of the music. And with this plays a simple melody with jazz elements and such an unusual hall in Berlin, as the Tempodrom seems simple, but sophisticated light and drumsticks with soft tips, and performance is listening and looks colorful again.

Kingdom — the first single from the second solo album by David Gahan. It has a cool video, which was presented on Dave’s channel on video sharing site «YouTube», then the song came on the radio, and a day later was released in digital form for download in the iTunes store. The song has a commercial mystery, in the single is other arrangement, in contrast to the album version other words, that sounded at the Berlin concert.

In original «Kingdom»  — a dance song, it even has line for rhymes in the chorus «all, all, all» to make it easy to imagine a dance movements, a glam bit. For it were made several dozens of remixes in the style of «Techno», «Dub-Techno», «Club dance», there are remixes included in the single album, there is album the «Hourglass remixes», there are unofficial remixes. In Berlin in the concert hall «Tempodrom», light champagne, «Deutsch Telekom» and in my home theater sounds «Walking in My Shoes»! Here is not enough place to wave around this microphone stand, but a dirty sound, piano, guitar emit upset sound. It sounds frank jazz in the style of John Coltrane. Something beeps, makes howling and rasping bands, pulls, moaning. I caught up, I realized. Here are dissonance guitars, that distort the sound. I had a musical band 14 years ago. And because of the lack of funds, we recorded in the studio for $600, and set a goal to sound as well as the album «Bleach» by the band «Nirvana», and maybe better. But this did not work, because the sound was not quite «dry». Then we tried again and were written for 400, 200, at the concert on the recorder, on video camera. I did not think at that time, it was called «old school», and for me to spend 8 months in the studio it seemed, like from the science fiction, though the understanding, that professional musicians are working so, I did. Above each song can work separately, search sounds, instruments, unique master them.

It is obvious that «SoulSavers» and in particular Gahan are not in a such limitation in finance, as schoolchildren or students, and they have a lot more and experience, and practice to get from the sound and visual style what they want. On this it seems, that Dave Gahan just manages resources until the band «Depeche Mode» is offseason and there are no tours, np recordings. He is in search of new ideas and sounds, combining with the band «SoulSavers» and creating solo projects. At least the other two members are not sitting without work. Martin Gore just recorded the album «MG», Andy Fletcher plays DJ-sets.

So each one of them have good music, I like a lot of things, but (honestly) like them, because I like «Depeche Mode», and I always keep in my mind the point, that it is relevant to them. I think they understand it about their fans also, and themselves are interested in not to stand still and do not step back, as it turns out, when they are alone. It is a logical for the musician to develop and move forward, and they get it, when they are together.

Among other things, I want to make such a compare, in search of new ideas, many musicians from God, such as, for example, Robert Plant .. So he uses musician from Africa, who play in the native African folklore instruments to make music more colorful, and recall The Beatles, which entered the Indian instruments into there music, Paul McCartney and his old-school Delta Blues jam sessions for the song ‘Early Days’ with Lil’ Poochie straight from Natchez, Mississippi. And I worked with Belarusian scums in Belarus cellars, there to find the visual, audio and ideological roots for some work, from what I understand David Gahan and other musicians, and artists, who are doing so. As a result we get an interesting result, as part of main project, and it may turn out a completely new idea, which shakes. Like searched, searched and found. The main thing is to know for what?
