What did I like in the film Knock Knock starring Keanu Reeves?

According to rumors, in the long life of Hugh Hefner were about four thousand sexual partners.

Carrently I liked Keanu Reeves on the cover of the film in theaters and an intriguing story, that he and two young girls. It was listed, as the erotic genre (I smiled). Such the movie format with Keanu Reeves could not be missed! Keanu Reeves, though, is a versatile actor, but I had never seen his erotic films before. Then in a timely manner was advertising in my favorite online store, dedicated to his film «Sweet November» with beautiful romantic frames..

Also on the iPad, like an abstract of the film, in a magazine was an advertising of beautiful lingerie, and, on the other hand, these teasers started with the official ad and I think, that it was such a creative idea to broadcast women’s underwear, women’s bodies and gifts to those, who were interested in this film. And I thought, that I want to watch!

Knock Knock advertising was on the movie sites, movie blogs, in places, where I am Every day, and the film is still advertised, maybe because I have showed interest in it before. But it is already advertised, like not so massive and the time to time. And now, almost a year later, I watch it. Such people, as I am in marketing, are called «Deferred customers».

I decided to watch and write about this film after the post about Dave Gahan’s gig.. I postponed film and did not watch patiently up to this moment, but reviewed some other films to refresh the memory of Keanu Reeves acting career: My Own Private Idaho (1991), Point Break (1991), Speed (1994), Johnny Mnemonic (1995), Chain Reaction (1996), The Devil’s Advocate (1997), Sweet November (2010), Generation Um… (2012), John Wick (2014, 2017). Matrix trilogy (1999, 2003, 2003) and The Animatrix (2003) I have already watched to holes.

One of the main questions, that interested me, while watching him, that’s what it takes to be the actor in Hollywood?.

 

I. This is the teamwork and I understand the sexual idea of the film

The American filmmaker has always been more interested in creating fiction, than revealing reality. Early on the documentary form was discarded or relegated to a marginal status. For better or worse, the Hollywood director is an entertainer. He’s in the business of telling stories. He’s therefore saddled with conventions and stereotypes, formulas and cliches, and all these limitations were codified in specific genres. This was the very foundation of the studio system.

Genres were never rigid. Creative filmmakers kept stretching their boundaries.

Girls, obviously, came with one purpose, or they did not come for, but pictures and photos are too sexy too. And talking about sex: «It’s just sex, and let’s talk about it». It is necessary to get fu**ed.

During sex games Genesis and Bell flirt and work stewardesses. One blonde chews gum, the other — brunette. And the brunette asked to go to the bathroom.

During the next day Evan engages in his own affairs, Bell and Genesis remind themselves, frolic and show him naked asses through a house window, then suck a banana. One holds a banana between legs, and the other sucks it on knees. So he looks at them through the window, when on the street on his own business. That is funny. It must be said, that girls’s mood is groovy, per se, cute. Evan — France. Our heroes can not satisfy their passion without fu**ing each other.

On the second evening Evan is siting at home and listening to music, working. Big house, as you can walk around for hours, it’s cool. Girls came again. Blond dressed in schoolgirl clothes in pink panties and then took them off, and climbed into his bed to show, what is under her skirt. They f**k and shoot video on the phone.

The next step is Evan sits on a chair and Genesis, and Bell show him underwear, one girl changes underwear, and the other says stories about what here friend is doing, and accompanies it with music. Entertainer and model try to make it nice and constantly laugh. In the process of communication it appeared, that they had been firing at each other in social networks before the meet.

They even do not know how to hold a gun! He runs away from them with a frying pan throughout the house and can not do it. At the end of the film they posted pictures together and gathered likes on Facebook.

II. The main in this movie is style!

You’re like a child! What’ve I been telling you? Sometimes you’ve gotta do the safe picture. Sometimes, you do it for art. Sometimes, it’s the payback picture your friend says you owe him.

(They take a beat and look at the camera).

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, American comedy film, written and directed by Kevin Smith, 2001.

Scorsese says, that as far back as the 1940s, some directors discovered, that they had more freedom in a low-budget picture, than in a prestigious picture of category A. They had fewer executive producers, looking over their shoulder. They could introduce unusual smears, weave unexpected patterns and even turn a monotonous material into a means for personal self-expression. They were cunning, and somehow they did it all. They had opportunities, projects, that allowed beautifully to show different experiences, interesting topics or even political views, and they appeared, when the funding was a minimal. For the shooting the film Knock Knock was spent a little money, that is why in the thirty seconds, as it happens in American Beauty, here is no a special meaning, little emotion, little freedom, a little bit of sense, technologies and marketing, and a little bit of all. But the film turned out quite full due to talented people and ideas, and the main here is style. But I would not learn Eli Roth in this movie so clearly, as in films of Alfred Hitchcock Alfred Hitchcock. I did not see exclusive director’s tricks. The Knock Knock actors and director Eli Roth say, that shooting the film — it was Fun, there was a lot of improvisation and freedom to play with the characters.

Before shooting Eli Roth watched other films to compare with his own work: Roman Polanski’s “Death and the Maiden», Adrian Lyne’s “Fatal Attraction”, when Peter Traynor shot “Death Game”, and Jack Fisk did his production design. He remembered “Cabin Fever”, when he was in the cabin, he always used depth and window light. «There was a point, where we shot it, cut it, edited it and watched it with the cast, and everyone is like. The sex scene could have been better. We went back and we shot inserts of body parts and photo doubles, and it turned out awesome», — Eli Roth about Knock Knock.

Alfred Hitchcock fought off his niche, because had own style. The style of the specific type of movie, he identified with. And in spite of Eli Roth is not so clearly identified, for me, with a specific type of movie, but he works qualitatively with horror and thriller, he works well in confined spaces. With this Knock Knock in popular genres of horror, thriller and drama, so PR people made also fun and erotic.

And all this was, if talk about horror. Each frame is so Evil, that I do not want to leave anything in memory. I watched it trough fingers, as a little lamb, which has anxiety (be-e-e-e-e).

Were first-class make-up, horrible grimaces, terrible interior and costumes, which took feelings of disgust and loathing. Were feelings of fear, anxiety and uncertainty, were tense atmosphere of terror and agonizing expectation of something terrible, because of psychological actions (tied to a chair, gagged, unconventionally buried the corpse in a statue, buried in the sand till the neck, was inadequate behavior and thank you), struggle between good and evil. In horror genre I prefer films about vampires and Dracula bite-cula, for example, Vampire Hunter D, 1985.

I like the house being a metaphor for the marriage and the different levels, the different layers, the façades, the things you destroy underneath, and the U-shape of it, — Eli Roth.

Thriller genre was successful integrated with horror and made it better. ominous glance of lightning, a sudden surge of emotion, anxiety, agitation, menacing voice of thunder, howling wind≈filled with darkness, enslaved mind with fetters of fear. Sound greatly enhanced emotions, when was illustrated by an event, that you did not see. darkness impacted by itself. It was only hinted (that was a shadow on the wall), and here is a tension. The sharp contrasts of black and white, separated light sources and sinister shots, a deep perspective (all, as in tutorial). In thrill genre I love many films and, a specially, films of David Lynch, Alfred Hitchcock. I like Point Break, Chain Reaction, Street Kings, where the mane role was played by Keanu Reaves.

In the picture skillfully connected old and new proportions, doorways and corridors within the wide format for dramatic effects. The wider the frame, the greater the sense of depth and impressive illusion of reality. The wide screen gives a feeling, that I’m really in the house. Family decor was a trap for a family man, carnival of illusions, an imaginary journey in an imaginary love story. Director camera moved simultaneously with the characters: visual choreography allowed us to track every beat of their hearts (all, as in tutorial 2). There is a dynamic film editing.

In the erotic genre, which is not marked on IMDb, but is in Wikipedia and other media, from which it is clear, that the producers at the heart of the film all the same pawned an erotic, but not enough to say professionally about it in the industry, the film shows Teenage energy, but not Playboy. Due to teasers it seemed to me, that it would be more uncovered sexuality. Not Tinto Bras, but there are more sex in black-and-white Japanese films of the sixties. Did not show any beaver ((

Strongly impressed cried Keanu Reeves. Throughout the film there was a feeling of artificiality of what was happening, some of scenes were not taken seriously. It all ended in absolute happy end in the climactic bonus scene, when Keanu Reeves hero Evan the third time came to the girls home himself. The meaning of the scene is simple — he liked and wanted more. Maybe we see the manifestation of the new features of his character.

Keanu says, he found friendly people and talented artists, had interesting questions to work on: power, revenge, temptation, price. Knock Knock has the same plot, as Death Game, 1977 (Thriller, USA) and Vicious and Nude, 1980 (Drama, Thriller, Spain), but different script, which was restyled to modern days, the same theme of minors and father’s daughters, but solutions are different.

By the words of Martin Scorsese, after 8 years Raoul Walsh shot the same story in the genre of Western. The territory of Colorado, he again supplies his hero with vast spaces, where people seem to be dwarfs. At the end of the film similar dialogues, but in difference of previous film the mystical spirit of what is happening is felt, which takes him beyond the boundaries of the Western genre.

In this Knock Knock picture in difference of the picture Death Game, which is the primary source, and on which this remix was made on, here is a high quality color, and the movie because of it, is not as more real, but more entertaining and colorful. The color itself can create the dramatic atmosphere. Color can convey feelings. Colors can be intentionally distorted or unbalanced.

In Death Game music decides the certain character of heroines, cause music is the leitmotif throughout the film and emphasizes lightheadedness and frivolity. In Vicious and Nude I see frivolity at the expense of the history of girls. They are hippies and f**k with everything, that moves. But in Knock Knock frivolous character is transferred with acting and teenage mood, an incredible turn in the brand relationship of Keanu Reeves, which more likes an anecdote or Premiere tennis.

Shanghai Knights, Starring Jackie Chan, 2003.

In all films is the thriller genre. But everywhere it is differently involved in other genres. In Death Game, taking into attention funny children comic titles about the fact, that this story was really happened, and due to the children music, which makes the film a kind of a punk-musical, seems, that this is a scary story for adults, such as those, which are told children at night (a gray little wolf will come and your haunch will yum-yum-yum). It seems, that the song was written special for the film. In Vicious and Nude a thriller with drama. All serious, no fu*ing funk. In Knock Knock thriller with horror, drama. The mood is similar to Death Game, but not because of music, but of the other techniques. The teenage mood here is conveyed by many dialogues about sex, but a little sex on a vidioe, a small puppy, which is piu-piu, as everyone likes it, the steep Keanu Reeves, next to which the girls are really Daddy’s daughters.

Between the power of thunder and the mood inside the house the harmony is better transferred in Knock Knock, but the more spectacular sinister appearance of the girls in Death Game, than in Knock Knock, and in Vicious and Nude effect, in general, was not. In movies protagonists have different characters. In Knock Knock — shyness, in Death Game — coolness, in Vicious and Nude — disappointment. Helplessness in front of threats is only in Knock Knock, in other pictures it looks like passivity. Yet social difference between girls and the protagonist in Knock is not shown, but it is clearly shown in other films, due to either a separate story of girls, like in Vicious and Nude, or the city, in which they live. In Knock this is during the promotion in regional festival costumes, but, in my opinion, this is not enough for an average viewer, but it may be well done for real fans or professionals, who thoroughly study, what this or that actor is doing, and in this case is Keanu Reeves.

The sexual died of a marmalade is not shown anywhere. Wish the number of erotic scenes from Vicious and Nude to move in Knock Knock.. In comparison, amount of sex in Death Game is the same, as in Knock Knock, and even the same trick is about hands on fly. Death Game has a lesbian love, but it did not not appear in the genre of erotica, apparently, because such a set of videos was not enough to be called Erotic, and it can be concluded, that a part of Erotic is also talking about sex, which is in Knock Knock. Or it is simply advertising, for which give only a reason.

In general, bad girls turned out well in all three films. The social morality in their persons reaches both insanity and apogee. The issue of sex with minors is touched everywhere and is the motor of the development of events. But in Death Game the girls try to show the main character the difference between them and his wife, so in Knock Knock, that fu**ing is good, in Vicious and Nude showed different facets of society, where is something and that. In Death Game somehow comes to mind the analogy of Master and Servant: some f**ck others to death and make themselves a fortune. Cleaner in Death Game became a masseuse in Knock Knock, but for those, who has figurative thinking, the difference between a love massage or washing the machine may not be.

Destroy, nervous tension are weakly presented everywhere, except Knock. Call the police in Death Game happened, at all, hell knows when, and as if the call was addressed to the waiter at the hotel for champagne, while Evan calls almost immediately after creating a threatening situation. It is possible, that in the modern world the system works faster. You call faster to the police or call the ambulance, than you would have done 30 years ago. All these happen due to the high level of integration of social media in people’s lives. The films show metaphors of sexual laws in the face of girls and their punishment, as a way of life, that clamps immoderate passion in a vice.

In every film different tasks are solved in different ways, for some tasks the scenes are opened more, for some less. In Death Game and Knock Knock is censorship about the lower belt, and in Vicious and Nude look how much you want, but cause the emphasis is on the drama, then do not even want it for money. But I think, that there is the question of brands of actors and contracts, what can be shown in the film, and what is not. Will the main titles, cover, chest, chest on the cover, because of own target audience. Contracts consist of dozens of pages and describe every detail of the filming process. They are created by specialized lawyers. According to rumors, Schwarzenegger’s contract for Terminator 3 was prepared for seven months and included 21 draft versions. For the participation in the film Iron Arnie received $29 millions and payment for a huge number of additional costs: from personal protection and aircraft to the gym in the van. In addition, according to the terms of the contract, Schwarzenegger was given the right to choose all participants in the process: from the make-up artist to the director.

There are more dialogues in Knock Knock, than in other films. A friend of the main character in Death Game is like a German porn hero, because instead of breaking and helping his friend, he seems to be flirting with the girls. Really a friend tries to help in Knock Knock and Vicious and Nude.

Drama is life with the dull bits cut out.

Eli Roth says, that he would not like to call Knock Knock a horror, where there is no blood, but the film in all media and on IMDb is listed as Horror, so I think, that Eli Roth is, simply, modest. Blood is only in Vicious and Nude and a little. As for a quality of filming, so in Death Game I did not see the color of corpse, wrinkles, fine playing of facial expressions to convey the mood. Make-up was made in the style of punk with rough strokes, because the other one could not be transmitted with the quality of the film format, you could not show wild hair, would not show sweaty faces, solid textures are visible, the color of the eyes could not be disassembled too. I think, that the director drew attention to the fact, that in an hourglass we can not see the grains of sand, when often shows this watch in comparison with a mechanical clock with a large arrow on a wall. The only jet is visible to the viewer. To convey the shape of the object, he points the camera at the wall and shows us a heavily crumpled jug per meter in a diameter and two young girls beside. In the 21st century a phone makes a better video, cause already the hair of a beard is visible.

In Death Game the musical accompaniment of the staff with feelings of hysteria and insanity through minor music and strong reverb, echoes and nothing to disassemble. Throughout the all movie the viewer, as was fu**ed in the brains, and the hero gave in and cried only at the end. At that time, as in Knock Knock Evan stunned at once, and in Vicious and Nude — never. It can be seen, that Knock Knock became a dynamic picture, because it turned out to work out more tasks, than in other films and faster. Evan looks more like a victim. In Knock Knock the energy of Tinejærs is better transferred. And if Roth did not expand the boundaries of a genre with this film, he definitely expanded the boundaries of the film itself, enriched his palette, expanded his horizons and learned something, or maybe he expanded the boundaries of Chilean cinema or did not think about borders at all, and just made a movie. He filled up the gallery of images of bad girls, who do not drink, smoke or drive cars crazily, live in a city, look like simple lol. He restyled film to the present time and combined different genres. Simply mixed the style! Timing of films is almost the same.

All films look holistically, in different films the directors achieve this by the fact, that in some places they put forward the acting skills, in some places the music, in some places the interior, light, make-up, dialogues, editing, and in Knock the thought of the film continues PR, which is within the framework of the relationships between the brands.

In all the pictures there are hits and destruction, but the collusion between girls is not disclosed. We can assume insult in Knock. Renunciation of his actions — this topic is only in Knock, a negation only in Knock. Madness is well shown everywhere, but in different ways, somewhere installation causes glitches, somewhere the behavior of heroines, somewhere perversity in murdering. Then comfort everywhere is shown equally well. The parallel between loud thunder and the level of psychopathy of heroines (than softer thunder — softer psychopathy) is only in Knock, and also in Knock Knock the hero and the scoundrel complement each other. At the same time, physics in all films is similar to the real one, that is the efforts, that are applied to certain objects, bring the perception closer to the reality of events. In Death Game colors can be counted on the fingers, as well as the number of elements, clearly displayed in the frame, but in Vicious and Nude can be seen more elements, on a tie of one character diamonds, as large, as one cent, are already clearly visible.

In Vicious and Nude the night in color looks much more honest, than the day, life is like li, but music will now cry. The music is minor, the theme of sexual undernourishment here is not affected, not disclosed.

In Vicious and Nude the nature of the girls is revealed by the fact, that they are lolloping around the house for the hero, and they chew the chewing gum at Knock Knock, I do not remember in Death Game. The topic of doubt before the sex with strangers in Vicious and Nude is, generally, absent. 5 seconds did not passed, and he already passionately takes blondu for an ass. For him it’s such a job to be a writer and to grab a woman for an ass. As if he wanted the sex with the Blonda for the half of life. Music is not Enigma, but the soul in the soul is direct at this moment. But the film does not excite, in which is the drama, although the f**k already got almost the half of film. ID here — and so come down. Both beavers were shown, but these are not even beavers, but shaggies. And on boobs, it seems, that all of Woodstock was hanging. The man is already sleeping, and the women are having sex without him. Seemed the writer’s ID worked. Whether a man regrets about last night in Vicious and Nude or Death Game, I did not understand, but in Knock yes. In Vicious and Nude the girls so, in general, came, fu**ed and left without problems. When girls use drugs in Vicious and Nude music — a bitch heavy sad woman, namely: cocaine and marijuana, alcohol. Therefore their behavior is unbalanced.

In the films Death Game and Vicious and Nude the audience is, obviously, older. Sex is everywhere and passion is everywhere, like not real. In Vicious and with soundtracks, there is no order. I hear the relaxing music playing, and as if riding on a yacht in a sunny, and not hot, and a warm pleasant day. And the scene is evil. May be they wanted to show contrast, but..

In Vicious and Nude tried to show the jealousy of wife, who during the phone calls to home understands, that her husband has some marmalade with someone. And this is the only thing, that turned out funny in this film, but, apparently, the author wanted to convey all the seriousness of this idea. Girls naked ride on a swing. Again beavers and free love. A wife now 350 will make on a Fiat. In films differently shown family values, in Knock Knock — it’s fidelity of the hero and the family interior, in Death Game and in Vicious and Nude I did not see anything.

7 minutes and not half the movie, actually, to the end of the movie, but in Vicious and Nude, there is a murder. Different loads are greased: the hero tries to get up and free himself in one room, the guest was poured a coffee in other room. I have a feeling of intrigue for the first time just now (at the end of the film). The girls were frightened of the murder themselves in Vicious and Nude, and in Death Game, and Knock Knock it seems, that they were a little insane. Well, the outcomes are, that in Death Game and in Vicious and Nude heroines do not let go of titles, they die, fall under the car, or the car falls from the mountain. In Vicious and Nude girls, in general, at the end of the film (it turns out) escaped from some shelter. That is, just like with a dick, as it happens in Knock Knock, these were not happened in the 70’s and 80’s, that is in Knock they remain unpunished, which is already reminds Horror.

Films convey different moods in one straight story, they are not an example of romantic ideals, they do not fight against any systems, they do not throw any calls, they simply practice the primitive laws of society and morality. The idea of the law triumphs, and personal desires perish against the background of legislative utopia! Los Angeles is not perfect, come to Chile! The conclusion of the films is similar, that violence and lawlessness are bad, and that you need to invite people you know to your house, and you need to know the age of your sexual partner, the laws of the country, where you are, and the sexual partner herself in order to reduce risks and problems, and have fun. But girls naked ride on a swing, again beavers and free love.

Say a part of vocals in a song will play a cello. It can turn out to be funny, but for someone it’s not usual, and it’s not clear, because used to hear the rhythm of the guitar and the voice in the foreground, maybe the listener will see new facets of the composition in the new arrangement, and he will like it more? I prefer fictional films more, than straightforward ones, since, cause they take association, for me, with Hollywood! And here are some musical trash or core.. (that I have some in my media library).

 

III. About the film’s budget and some more

You know! The film «Paranormal Activity», 2007 with budget of 15K, took profit of 12000 times more.

As it turned out, it is interesting to begin to learn movies with the film Knock Knock, because it is small and created, and played, somehow, for students, in spite that fact, that all crew consists of professionals. Ana de Armas played with Robert De Niro, Lorenza Izzo is popular actress and model in Latin America, wife of  Eli Roth. I mean she is muse for him, and he can work with here more closer, and she turns out well. But I would not want to star in such a movie at the beginning of my career, even despite the fact, that Eli Roth is an experienced professional director. He is of those people, who like to experiment and expand the boundaries of cinema and his own, and if in this film, and it’s promoushana can be seen, that Keanu Reeves is in the driver’s seat and sustainably manages his brand inside the picture and during PR, so for a young actor it is the obvious risks.

I think, that the modern world is full enough of erotic stories and films in different ways with different levels of meaning, and since Lolita, Stanley Kubrick, 1962 (Vladimir Nabokov wrote the novel in 1955, she was 12 years old), Death Game is already an entertaining fun in that time!. That is, unlikely, that, today, reasons for the record sales of the film Knock Knock in England and France were the classic British restraint of the protagonist and the revolution in the style of Anna d’Zhark, where the woman takes a super power in here hands. But, anyway, at the heart of the film stands a sexy idea. And the authors say, that it is fun-fun-fun, a lot of fun, super fun, Killing fun. Keanu says, that «Why? Why? You did this to me!», — it was so really fan, that he noted this moment, as one of the most powerful. The film Knock Knock could be watched from a mobile phone, and for $5 it is definitely not comparable with the Pirates of the Caribbean on the wide screen for the same money. From England to Russia, from Russia to China, from America to anywhere. And here we are!

What is understandable, since the picture was originally laid on marketing, but not own taste, which is if you are lucky, a viewer will like it too. But to compare the high-tech movie The Matrix Reloaded with budget of $150 millions, — GOT Gross more $7.5 billion. Fee for Keanu Reeves Matrix is larger of the budget of this movie in 10 times. As a financier, I dream on it. According to rumors, Keanu Reeves net worth reaches an estimate of 350 millions dollars. Not Warren Buffett, but it is a success!!

Beginning of the shooting of Knock Knock was started in April 14, 2014 and lasted for a month, and since January 23, 2015, the film was presented in different countries around the world. In Russia in October 22, 2015, in Japan, 11 June, 2016. DVD-premiere was in January 13, 2016, and television premiere was already in Italy, March 1, 2016. Blu-ray in May 5, 2016 in Spain. For example, the first Matrix had rode to Russia for 8 months, and the second for 2 months. And the third part for 10 days.

Together with the dog in the film Knock Knock involved 10 characters and 11 producers.

Script was very fun. We were in founding emotions, and it was great to work. He is such a professional. I’m on the next level. He in all directions works every second and straight with the cameras. I studied with Keanu, and he is so humorous and knows how to make it is comfortable. Wikipedia, Afisha, The Guardian, Euronews, MTV, GQ, Channel 24, Los Angeles times — these are for 400 mentions, a little photo session, teasers, billboards, videos from festivals, may be radio and TV, but a minimum. It’s not so, as if it done stupid, but basic template engine, no style, nor charm. Control of distributors was poor. Some parts of the Internet project are made even worse.

Advertising messages in the head change quite axes. Grungee logo, which does not fit into the screen, should logically increase the attention to the title of the film (for which this technique exists). But it does not work here. And the name of Keanu Reeves is not visible. A webmaster did not test his website in the browsers (and this is the first school class). Maybe this stresses the naive teenage fun? But the conclusion is, that movies with Keanu Reeves with this budget can be rolled without ad and distributors. Eli Roth was aiming at the 37 millions people, who are interested in questions of happy family life, and this is good correlated with Keanu Reeves, but where?

Speed of opening the site is poor. I opened one news, and I can not close it to open the second, you have to reload the entire site and scramble to the end, and wait for the content to load again.
